Allen D. Elwell

May 26, 1935 — April 27, 2017

Allen D. Elwell, 81, of Dawson, died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at his home.  Born May 26, 1935 in N. Charleroi, PA he was the son of the late Joseph and Celina Hess Elwell.   A resident of Dawson for the past 54 years, Mr. Elwell was a member of Bryan United Methodist Church, Dawson and was a retired welder from US Steel Clairton Works.  He was a veteran having served in the US Army as a medic with the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles and boxed in the Golden Glove tournament.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and helped to manage and coach the Perry Twp. Bronco, Pony and Colt baseball from 1972 to 1982.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by two sons & daughters in law Joseph & Deborah Elwell of Dawson, Michael & Pamela Elwell of Dawson, daughter & son in law Mary Lou & James Stanley of Dawson; four grandchildren Amanda Rae Thompson & Husband Todd, Marcus & Kaitlyn Wetzel, Samantha Elwell, Lucas Elwell; three great grandchildren Jayden Wetzel, Toby Elwell and Penny Keller.  He is preceded in death by his wife Gloria R.  Mellinger Elwell; three brothers Joseph Elwell, James Elwell, Thomas Elwell; seven sisters Emma Elwell, Mary Elwell, Anna Reconnu, Dorothy Daumit, Betty Brumley, Patty Tharp and Celina Gardner.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 6-8 PM and Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 191 Liberty St. Perryopolis, PA 724-736-2515.  Funeral services will be held Monday at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations at 10 AM with Chaplain Fred Bauer officiating.  Interment will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis.
