Julius A. Sobek

August 28, 1923 — April 8, 2017

Julius A. Sobek, 93, of Fayette City, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Twp.  Born August 28, 1923 in Fayette City, he was the son of the late John Wladyslaw and Julia Fierst Sobek.    A lifelong resident of Fayette City, Mr. Sobek was a member of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Perryopolis and  the former Holy Spirit RC Church, Fayette City.  He was a retired millwright and millwright foreman from Whg-Pgh Steel, Allenport Plant and was later employed at Lee Norse, a veteran of World War II where he served in the US Army, and a member of the former Polish Heritage Club, Uniontown.  Julius was a devoted and loving husband and father.  In his younger years, he was a "jack of all trades". He enjoyed and was a perfectionist at watchmaking, gardening, being a mechanic for his and his children's cars, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and he loved building things.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, he is survived by his children John L. Sobek of Donora, Robert A. & Michele Sobek of Lakewood, Colorado, Henry J. Sobek of Belle Vernon, Janet M. Sobek of Greensburg; 3 grandchildren John J. Sobek, Heather Graham, Robert A. Sobek Jr.; six great grandchildren Matthew, Savannah, Decatur, Julian, Lilliana & Jeden; sister in law Leah Sobek of Ohio and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Helen Carolyn Nykiel Sobek; three brothers Andrew (Frances) Sobek, Stanley (Nina) Sobek, Edward 'Fritz' Sobek; sister Florence (Tom) Claybaugh and a daughter in law Helen Jo Sobek.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated 724-736-2515, 191 Liberty St. Perryopolis, PA 15473.  Prayers of Transfer will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by funeral mass at 10 am at St. John The Baptist RC Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Matusak as celebrant.  Interment will take place in LaFayette Memorial Park.  Members of St. John the Baptist Church will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Julius Sobek Monday at 3 pm in the funeral home.
