Thomas 'Joe' Barger

Thomas Joseph ‘Joe’ Barger, 94, of North Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 5:47 am at Hallsworth House, Monessen.  Born May 24, 1923 in Acosta, he was the son of the late William L. and Edith L. Smith Barger.  A resident of North Belle Vernon for the past 71 years, Mr. Barger was a member of St. Sebastian R.C. Church and was retired from the Bi-products Division, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Coke Plant.  He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army, was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026 and the Knights Bowling League, Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, and the Lynnwood lanes and Brunswick bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife Mary Louise  Marasco Barger to whom he was married 71 years; children Susan Jo Johnson of Charleroi, Thomas Barger & wife Elaine of North Belle Vernon; Mary Ann Hauser of Butler, Nancy Moody & husband Craig of Fayette City; Barbara Sanino Presa which he considered as another daughter; brother in law & sister in law Angelo & Faith Marasco of Michigan which he also considered a brother and sister; nine grandchildren Marijo Rongaus & husband Neil, Bryan Johnson and Carly Jenkins, Dianna Barger, Stephanie Barger, Robert Hauser, Jonathan Hauser & wife Amanda, Joseph Hauser & wife Jennifer, Brianna Grunsky & husband Tim, Steven Moody; nine great grandchildren Marco & Remi Rongaus, Jacob, Joseph & Matthew Hauser, Aubrey, Brooklyn & Alaina Hauser, Bryce Grunsky; and numerous nieces, nephews great nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Phyllis Barger, brother William Barger; two sons in law Larry Johnson and Robert Hauser; father in law & mother in law Philip & Josephine Marasco and a brother in law Basil Marasco.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183.  Prayers of Transfer will be held Saturday at 10:30 am in the funeral home followed by funeral mass at 11 am at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Francisco R. Gan Jr. Pastor as celebrant.  Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Joe Barger Friday at 3 pm, the Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Friday evening at 7 pm and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus will conduct services Friday evening at 7:30 pm all in the funeral home.
