Frances Annette Sobek

Frances Annette Ambrozich Sobek, 98, of Washington Twp., Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 12, 2024.   Born August 26, 1925 in Gillespie, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Prunk Ambrozich.  Frances graduated from Marion High School in 1943, then from Douglas Business School of Charleroi in 1945; upon her graduation she worked at the Allenport plant of Pittsburgh Steel as secretary to the Work's Accountant.  In later years she worked as a clerk at the United Dairy Farm Store in Belle Vernon.  After many years as a homemaker Frances excelled in cooking and baking. Each holiday she proudly continued the tradition of her Slovenian heritage by baking delicious potica and paska bread.  She was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, was a member of the SNPJ Lodge 729 and a life member of St. Sebastian Church.  

She is survived by her loving daughter Mary Jane Sobek of Washington Twp., loving son & daughter in law Ted & Deana Sobek of Perryopolis, granddaughter Alexa Sobek-Fiumara & husband Michael of Pittsburgh, numerous nieces & nephews, and her faithful felines Jinx & Miss Kitty.   She is preceded in death by her husband Thaddeus H. Sobek, two brothers Matthew Shirley and Joseph Shirley, two sisters Mary Jane Schwenk, Rosemarie Winship, and an infant sister Amelia Ambrozich.   

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183.  Prayers of Transfer will be held Friday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant.  Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Frances was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself. She survived the Great Depression, World War II and the COVID pandemic. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
