Frank L. "Lindy" Zemencik, 91, of Belle Vernon, died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela.
Born March 21, 1923, in Fallowfield Township, he was a son of the late Joseph M. and Mary T. Babinsky Zemencik.
A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 10 years, Mr. Zemencik was a member of Ava Maria Parish, Bentleyville, for more than 70 years, before moving to Belle Vernon and joining St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the South Pacific as a medical technician. Mr. Zemencik was a 1942 graduate of Bentleyville High School.
He was a well-known high school and college referee for baseball, football, basketball and soccer. He was a member of the Otters Club in Van Voorhis, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1409 in Monongahela, life member of American Legion, member of Bentleyville American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville Eagles and Lithuanian clubs.
Mr. Zemencik was a constable in Fallowfield Township and served on the Washington County Board of Elections, Fallowfield District. When he was no longer able to participate in officiating and attending sporting events, his favorite past time was watching them on TV, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Joe "Nehi" Zemencik, George "Shorty" Zemencik and John "Tom" Zemencik, and two sisters, Helen Habinak and Mary Semancik.
Visitation was held Thursday in Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick as celebrant. Interment took place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
