Geraldine (Gerri) Marie Hammerash, 77, of Perryopolis, joined her beloved husband Bill when she passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. She was born February 18, 1943, in Perryopolis, a daughter of the late John V. Rathway and Emma Kranik Rathway. Gerri was a graduate of Bellmar High School where she met and then married her high school sweetheart, William J. Hammerash, in 1963. Their romance was a legendary, once-in-a-lifetime kind of love, admired by everyone who knew them. They raised three children together in Perryopolis, making laughter a part of every gathering. Knowing they walk hand in hand together again gives the family great peace. Gerri was also a graduate of Moyer's Beauty School. Although she didn’t use these skills professionally after having children, Gerri was always willing to help with a haircut for anyone brave enough to get on the other side of those scissors! Gerri was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Perryopolis. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and participate in school events. Her fun-loving personality made her everyone’s Grammy, and she always had her camera ready to capture the moment. The only thing that sparkled more than her personality was her clothes.
She is survived by her children Shelley & John Battaglia, Jr. of Port Matilda, Tracey & Bruce Scott of Perryopolis, Drs. William, Jr. & Catherine Hammerash of Ellicott City, MD; her grandchildren John, Nick, Emily (Esteban Christian) & Ellie Battaglia, Riley, Tristen & Abigail Scott, Ariel & Alex Hammerash; her great-grandchild Paloma Christian; her brothers John (Mary) Rathway, Jr., Richard (Jeanne) Rathway; and her brother-in-law Daniel Hammerash. Her brother Thomas (Patty) Rathway preceded her in death.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations. In accordance to Gerri’s wishes, there will be no public services. Gerri hopes to live in the memories and hearts of all who loved her. Love You More!
