Irene Kontaxes Fafalios, 93, of Monongahela, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Penn Highlands - Mon Valley Hospital in Monongahela, PA. Born August 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Mary Flora Kontaxes. Irene was a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley area where she married her husband Steve Fafalios. She spent her early years as a legal secretary and later embraced her role as a mother and a homemaker, providing loving care to her family through her exceptional skills in baking, cooking, preserving, and caregiving. She was a member of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen where she was active in the Ladies Philopticos Society. For many years Irene was in a local bowling league and loved to travel across the United States with the group.

Irene is survived by her five children: Maryann & Dan Dudas, Joseph & Joy Fafalios, Kathy Fairweather & husband Tom Miller, Irene Joy & Frank Agostoni, Stephanie & Jayson Beech; ten grandchildren Michelle Davis, Melinda Necciai, Stacie Gilley, Adrien Fairweather, Jessica Gauger, Jonathan Fafalios, Joshua Agostoni, Ryan Agostoni, Taylor Beech, Logan Beech; 14 great grandchildren Tyler Yocolano, Michael Yocolano, Alexis Davis, Selena Castro, Devin Easley, Gina Gilley, Nicholas Gilley, Augustus Fafalios, Gene Fafalios, Finley Fafalios, Judah Gauger, Ezekiel Gauger, Caleb Gauger, Eden Joy Gauger; four great-great grandchildren Landyn, Orlyn, Jerilyn, and Behryn. She is preceded in death by her husband Steve Fafalios, two brothers Nick and Steve Kontaxes, three sisters Bessy Capiotis, Josephine Nabozny, and Katherine Bezadick.

Private visitation and funeral services will be held with the Father Meletios Gianniodis of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monessen, officiating. Interment will take place in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
