Marvin A. Knight

Marvin A. Knight, 82, of Dawson, a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Penn Highlands - Mon Valley, Monongahela.  Born November 18, 1941 in Elizabeth, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Dorothy G. Anderson Knight.  A graduate of Mary Fuller Frazier High School in 1959 and a graduate from the National Harwood Lumber Association school in Memphis, Tennessee in July 1961.  

This led to a lifelong career in the lumber industry.   This career choice introduced him to the love of his life Barbara J. Herman, whose family-owned Herman Lumber Company where he would grade lumber.  After a courtship they began a 61-year marriage. He worked as a lumber grader at several different lumber companies until he became the manager of the Hopwood Division of the Coastal Lumber Company in 1978.  Marvin was an avid hunter and sportsman and a Charter member of the B&D Sportsman’s Club in Whites Creek near Somerset for 35 years.   He served as vice president from its inception.  He supported and believed in the Constitution and the Rights and Liberties held within.   

Marvin is survived by his wife Barbara Herman Knight with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage on Saturday, May 25, 2024, son & daughter in law Keith & Patricia Knight of Monessen, daughter & son in law Elizabeth & Robert Lynch of Perryopolis, two grandsons Ethan Lynch and Blake Lynch, one step grandson Zechariah Lynch, and brother Richard W. Knight of Dawson.  He is preceded in death by his two brothers Edward L. Knight, Harold Q. Knight, two sisters Janet 'Sue' Geehring, and Linda Ansell.
