Mary Lou Kalakewich

Mary Lou Basits Brewer Kalakewich, 93, of Belle Vernon, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. Born January 9, 1932 in Grindstone, PA she was the daughter of the late Alex and Evelyn Chiplaskey Basits. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Mrs. Kalakewich was a member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon and was employed by Santori Cabinets in the 1970's assembling cabinets. She later worked as a teacher's aide for Belle Vernon Area School District and enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her three children David Brewer, Nancy & Tim Matsick, Scott & Patricia Brewer all of Belle Vernon, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband William Brewer (1973), second husband John Kalakewich (1992), two daughters Pamela Pendland, Debra LaRew, daughter in law Glenda Brewer, three grandchildren Zachary Brewer, Nicole LaRew, Andrew Brewer, brother Alex Basits Jr., and sister Betty Jane Simpson.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, from 5-7 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, PA 15012 724-929-6183. Private family interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
