Richard 'Rick' Matson

January 17, 1953 — January 13, 2017

Richard Lee 'Rick' Matson, 63, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Twp., died Friday, January 13, 2017 at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Born January 17, 1953 in N. Charleroi, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Donna J. Ramsey Matson.   A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Mr. Matson was a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, worked for the Githen’s Insurance Agency until purchasing the business in 1998 changing the name to Rick Matson Insurance Agency.

He was a long time member of the Belle Vernon Rotary Club, served as past president and was instrumental in organizing the Belle Vernon Area High School Interact Club.  He was also involved in coaching youth soccer and helped initiate the youth referee soccer program.  He was a member of the former Belle Vernon Business Association and attended the Rostraver Chamber of Commerce meeting.  Rick currently sat on the Rehoboth Cemetery Board serving as Treasurer, was past President and was involved in the construction of the Cemetery Chapel.

He is survived by his wife Edwina 'Winnie' Leeper Matson to whom he was married 43 years; daughter & son in law Erin K McNair & husband Sandy of Manhattan, NY, son Eric Matson of Washington; two grandchildren Jadyn Matson, Richard McNair and a sister Marlyn Caramela of Sinking Spring.  He is preceded in death by his brother Barry R. Matson.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183 followed by funeral services at 8:00 PM with the Rev. Alan Olson of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church officiating.  Interment will take place in Rehoboth Cemetery.  Members of the Belle Vernon Rotary Club will hold services Sunday evening at 6:30 pm in the funeral home.
