Rudolph A. Halgas

Rudolph A. "Rudy" Halgas, 88, of North Belle Vernon, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at 2:20 p.m. at Victoria House, Monessen. Born July 24, 1927, in North Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Wozniak Halgas. A lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon, Mr. Halgas was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, and was a retired clerk from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard, was a member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department, the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026, Pricedale Russian Club and the PNA. He is survived by a son, Brian Halgas of Pittsburgh; daughter and son-in-law, Noreen and Joseph Newhouse of Belle Vernon; two granddaughters, Samantha and husband Jonathan Dawson and Audrey Halgas; and a great-granddaughter, Gianna Dawson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia V. "Doed" Venneri Halgas; three brothers, Ernest S. Halgas, Joseph Halgas and Mack Halgas; and a sister, Genevieve Zema.
Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183, followed by prayer service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home and funeral Mass at noon at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Rudolph A. Halgas to the Westmoreland County Meals on Wheels.
