Walter Melanowski

December 24, 1925 — January 5, 2017

Walter J. Melanowski, 91, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Twp., died Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:38 am at Residence at Hilltop.  Born December 24, 1925 in Fairhope, PA he was the son of the late Adolf and Sophie Kamalilo Molanowski.   A resident of Belle Vernon, Mr. Melanowski was a member of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659.  He began work at Corning Glass of Charleroi in 1942 and retired with 45 years of service.  Walter was a WW II veteran having been inducted into the Army on March of 1944 and served with the 293rd Field Artillery observation battalion, 66th Division.  He received several American Theater, Eastern and Central European and WWII victory ribbons and two Bronze Star metals.  He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, enjoyed traveling and woodworking.

He is survived by two sons and daughter in law Gregory Melanowski of at home, Gary & Andrea Melan of Rostraver Twp.; daughter & son in law Donna & Bill Smith of Rostraver Twp.; four grandchildren Stasia & Nathan Hubbell of Phoenix, AZ, Chad & Lindsey Smith of Murrysville, Garrett & Shelby Melan of Morgantown, WV, Gavin Melan of Rostraver Twp.; and three great grandchildren Isabella Hubbell, Nolan Hubbell and Charlie Smith.  He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Pushkar Melanowski; three brothers Charlie Malenowski, Stanley Melanowski, Edward Malenowski; sister Agnes Antal; four step brothers Joe, Andy, Carl & James Pintek and a step sister Ann Pintek Duplex.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183.  Prayers of Transfer will be held Saturday at 12:00 pm in the funeral home followed by funeral mass at 12:30 pm at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick Pastor as celebrant.  Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Walter Melanowski Friday at 3:20 pm and the Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Friday at 7pm both in the funeral home.
