Walter P. Varega, 92, of Monessen, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026 at his daughter's home with her by his side. Born July 5, 1934 in Monessen, PA he was the son of the late Samuel and Frances Smolinski Varega. A lifelong resident of Monessen, Mr. Varega attended Crossroads Ministry, Finleyville. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen, where he worked with the Track Gang on the railroad, and later at the City of Monessen garage after retirement. Walter proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Monessen Association Retired Steel Workers (MARS), the Monessen Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department and bowled in numerous leagues. He loved passing his time going to Claudia’s home several times a week having coffee and ‘goodies’ and watching his Western movies on channel 259.

He is survived by his daughter & son in law Claudia Marie & Daniel White of Brownsville, daughter in law Lynne Varega of Monongahela, and grandson Caleb Varega. He is preceded in death by his wife Dolores Shirley Varega, son Dale Varega, brother John Varega, and three sisters Mary Moreno, Pauleen Genes, Anne Makinen.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-7 pm at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC at 10:00 AM with the Pastor Ken Barner officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
